Firestorm Season Ends with Loss at William Jessup

PHOENIX, Ariz. – A few days after pulling the biggest upset in program history, the Firestorm women hit the road for their regular season finale; in which they fell to the William Jessup Warriors by a final of 65-61. The loss ends the Firestorm's 2014-15 season.

With the loss, the Firestorm end the year at 6-23 overall and 2-14 in GSAC play. With the victory, the William Jessup Warriors improve to 3-23 overall and 2-14 in GSAC play. The Warriors clinched the final playoff spot in the GSAC Tournament with the victory over the Firestorm.

The first half was neck and neck between the Firestorm and Warriors, as William Jessup took a one point lead of 31-30 into the locker room. ACU shot 35% (11-for-31) from the floor in the first half and shot 20% (2-for-10) from beyond the three-point arc. The Firestorm also shot 6-for-11 from the free-throw line. William Jessup shot 40% (12-for-30) from the floor and shot an impressive 50% (7-for-14) from beyond the three-point arc. The Warriors attempted just one free-throw in the first half and missed it.

In the second half, neither team shot above 40% from the field as the Warriors outscored the Firestorm 34-31; on their way to the 65-61 victory. ACU struggled in the second half, once again shooting 35% (12-for-34) from the field. The Firestorm shot 16% (2-for-12) from beyond the three-point arc and shot 62% (5-for-8) from the free-throw line. William Jessup also struggled from the field, shooting 37% (11-for-29) from the field. The Warriors shot 0-for-3 from beyond the three-point arc; after shooting 50% in the first half. William Jessup attempted 22 free-throws in the second half, making good on 12 of them.

In the loss, the Firestorm had three players score in double-figures; led by Jazmin Mays' 18 points. Mays shot 6-of-10 from the field and finished with eight rebounds, three assists and seven steals.
