Box Score La Mirada, CA- After playing a pretty evenly matched first half in their GSAC opener, the second half (or about an eight minute stretch) got away from Arizona Christian as they fell 5-0 to #12 Biola on Tuesday evening. Junior Ryan Scarpulla topped ACU with three shots.
The first 45 minutes of soccer resulted in the Eagles (6-1, 1-0 GSAC) outshooting the Firestorm (4-4, 0-1 GSAC) just 8-5. The only real breakdown was ACU allowing a goal in the 33rd minute.
Seniors Luis Tapia and William Ozuma both recorded first half shots. Freshman Andrew Archuleta collected one as well. Scarpulla sent a header high before attempting a long distance shot in the closing seconds of the half.
Out of the break, Biola took control after they scored six minutes into the half and then added another just over a minute later for a 3-0 lead. Three and a half minutes beyond that it was suddenly 4-0.
After falling behind 5-0, the Firestorm used the last 13 minutes to attempt five of their six second half shots including two on target but were shut down for the second game in a row.
On Saturday, the Firestorm will host Hope International at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex with an attempt to get back to their winning ways from earlier in the season. Game time is set for 1:30 pm.
