Poor Shooting Night, Firestorm Controlled By Eagles

Box Score

Phoenix, AZ- Allowing a team to shoot 50% from the field for the game usually does not bode well.  When you shoot less than 30% results like Tuesday's 79-47 Arizona Christian's loss to Biola are the norm.  A big second half sent Sophomore Courtney Christmas to a 22 point effort for ACU.

The Eagles (14-4, 5-1 GSAC) scored on their opening possession.  Junior Suzie Castro-Larsen converted an offensive rebound into the first two points for the Firestorm (9-8, 3-3 GSAC) on their beginning offensive trip down the floor.

After a turnover by Biola, Castro-Larsen took a feed from Senior Courtney Leach to make the game 4-2 ACU.  BU tied the game at 4-4 before Castro-Larsen pulled down another offensive board and a basket by Leach gave Arizona Christian a 6-4 cushion just two minutes into the contest.

But the final 38 minutes were controlled by the Eagles as they countered with an 8-0 lead to move ahead for good.

On the strength of shooting 59.4% from the floor versus just 21.2% for the Firestorm in the first 20 minutes, the Eagles held a 43-17 edge at the break.

Castro-Larsen was one of the leading scorers of the half for Arizona Christian with those first four ACU points of the evening.  Christmas was the other with four points as well.

Thanks to 18 second half points from Christmas, the Firestorm closed the gap late.  But they shot just 29.5% for the game while the Eagles converted exactly 50% of their attempts.

Sophomore Jada Willingham ended with nine points.

On Saturday, the Firestorm will host William Jessup at 1:00 pm AT/ 12:00 pm PT.
