Box Score La Mirada, CA- On Saturday, Arizona Christian was unable to defend the three point line and particularly Biola's Annie Park as the Eagles defeated the Firestorm 83-64. Park drilled 9 of her 13 three point attempts as BU shot 43.3% from the behind the arc. Sophomore Courtney Christmas scored an ACU high 23 points.
A technical foul accessed to the Eagles (16-5, 7-2 GSAC) for info not properly entered in the book gave the Firestorm (11-9, 5-4 GSAC) two free throws before any time ran off the clock. Sophomore Jada Willingham converted the two freebies and ACU lead 2-0.
However, once play actually began the Park show was on display from the very first shot as she hit a three pointer to push Biola ahead 3-2. Arizona Christian would not even see a tie the rest of the afternoon.
Park (27 points) made her first four three point offerings teaming with Demoria White to see Biola make their first five three pointers.
By halftime, ACU trailed 35-21. Christmas topped the Firestorm with nine points but both Park and White were already at 12 points.
At the final whistle, Willingham had climbed up to 15 points. Sophomore Makayla Enders and Freshman Kelsey Miranda ended up at 10 points.
Head Coach Odell Berry commented "We had some very good minutes and played well in spurts but their shooters made us pay for nearly every defensive mistake. Park and White were 12 for 22 from behind the arch for a combined 55%. They also made us pay for giving up 13 offensive rebounds. You just can't give those kind of shooters two chances."
Coach Berry added "The "Super Sophomores" had a decent day as all were in double figures. Christmas added eight steals to her stat line. Miranda also chipped in 10 points and 3 assists. At this point next Saturday's game at home vs. Menlo is the only thing we are thinking about."
Arizona Christian and Menlo will meet up on Saturday at 1:00 pm in Fultz Memorial Gym.
