Segura Scores Twice But Firestorm Falls At Soka

Box Score

Aliso Viejo, CA- Sophomore Alex Segura scored the first and last goals but Soka scored the middle three goals as Arizona Christian fell 3-2 at Soka on Saturday.

The first 13 minutes saw the Lions (3-2) out shoot the Firestorm (3-2) 4-2 with Junior Anthony Archuleta forcing a save and a shot by Junior Luis Bobadilla was blocked.

Following a foul by SUA, Segura converted his first goal when he sent the free kick into the upper left corner of the goal.

Just three minutes later, Soka use a header off a corner to create the 1-1 tie.

The teams exchanged only three shots (two by ACU) over the next 24 minutes- one from Junior Brian Booker (blocked) and Freshman Diego Robles (wide).

Unfortunately, right before the half was whistled dead, ACU could not clear a ball and in fact knocked the ball into their own net to give Soka the 2-1 lead.

Archuleta rattled the post just three 33 seconds into the second half.

Four minutes later, the Lions added what turned out to be the game winner when they sent a shot into the upper right corner of the net.

In the 55th minute, Segura took a feed from Archuleta and found the upper "V" of the net to make the score 3-2.  For Segura, the two goal effort was his first two goals of the season.

Try as they might, ACU could not find the equalizer in the final 35 minutes.

Head Coach Andrew Belleman offered these thoughts, "Frustrating result and performance today.  We continue to beat ourselves with mistakes.  We fought hard at the end to get back into it but the damage was already done.  We will have to keep working to improve and stay true to our process."

The Firestorm will head up to Prescott to square off with Embry-Riddle on Tuesday.  Start time is set for 7:30 pm.
