Box Score Phoenix, AZ- With their 70-62 win over William Jessup on Thursday evening, Arizona Christian Women's Basketball established their known program high in wins. Junior Courtney Christmas topped everyone with 24 points while Junior Makayla Enders was right behind with 22 points.
The Warriors (10-11, 1-5 GSAC) opened with the first points of the game. Christmas tied the game before WJU built a six point edge. However, Enders countered with a 10-0 personal run that included her splashing down two three pointers to push ACU back in front. Every basket for the first three plus minutes of the second quarter resulted in a tie or lead change between the teams. With 6:42 remaining before the half, Enders took a feed from Sophomore Toni Davis and hit a jumper to give ACU the lead back at 20-19. The Firestorm (15-4, 4-2 GSAC) remained in front for the rest of the contest.
By halftime, the score was 33-27 ACU. Enders and WJU's Anisah Smith both scored 12 points in the first 20 minutes.
William Jessup hung around with Arizona Christian closing to gap one a couple of times with ACU only building as large as a ten point lead.
At the final buzzer, Christmas scored 15 of her 24 points in the second half. Junior Jada Willingham joined the ACU double digit club with 15 points. Smith ended with 16 points for William Jessup.
With win number 15 on the year, ACU topped their previously best known program win total of 14 wins set last season. Team records currently unknown for the 1999-2000 to 2006-07 seasons. Nice work so far this year ACU WBB.
Head Coach Odell Berry stated, "Tonight's win was a big win for our program, 15 wins is a first for us. We played well most of the game at both ends of the floor. We had a few breakdowns on defense and weren't running on all cylinders a few trips on offense. Overall, I was proud of our effort on the boards against a very good rebounding team. Now we have one day to get ready one of the top teams in the GSAC and in the country."
On the Saturday, the #24 Firestorm will host the #15 Menlo Oaks at 2:00 pm in Fultz Memorial Gym.
