Box Score GLENDALE, Ariz. - Coming down to the wire, the Arizona Christian University women's basketball program (7-3; 1-1 GSAC) edged out a tough William Jessup University team (4-7; 1-1 GSAC), 65-62 in Saturday afternoon GSAC action inside the ACU Events Center.
Thoughts from Coach:
After the win, Rusty Rogers commented, "I am super proud of our squad today. We didn't do exactly what we wanted to do coming off of yesterday, but we did play with a lot of effort, and we always say when we get together you know we can make up for our mistakes with effort and excitement. I thought we made some mistakes at key times, but we made up for it with heart and hustle. I am really proud of the team really progressing from one day to the next. We looked like a different team today and I am very proud of them."
Game Details:
The win evens the all-time series to 7-7 and snaps a four-game losing streak to the Warriors dating back to the 2018-19 season.
Both teams shot well in the first half and kept things close, with ACU taking a narrow, one-point lead into the half, 35-34. Jessup would outscore ACU 17-14 in the third quarter, and began to pull away late in the fourth until the Firestorm came up with a timely basket off of a turnover to regain the lead.
After a pair of made free throws late for ACU, Jessup had one final chance to tie the game, but were unable to even attempt a shot as ACU's defense closed in, leading to the 65-32 come-from-behind victory for the Firestorm.
