Alvarez With A Season High 35 As Firestorm End Losing Streak

Box Score

Glendale, AZ - The Arizona Christian University women's basketball team (16-7, 6-6 GSAC) got back on the winning track as they came from behind to defeat San Diego Christian College (6-14, 3-9 GSAC) 79-73 on Thursday evening at the ACU Events Center.

Thoughts From Coach:

After the game Head Coach Rusty Rogers said, "Not taking anything away from San Diego Christian—they are a much-improved team that played a great game—but I thought we struggled for three quarters getting back our rhythm after dealing with Covid issues for three weeks. Our lineup is out of whack and we seemed like we were back to playing our first game of the season. Extremely proud of the "no quit" attitude our team has displayed all season long and they did what they had to do when they needed to do it again tonight!"

Game Details:

The Firestorm jumped out to an early 6-0 lead but the Hawks rallied to close within one as the Firestorm led 13-12 at the end of the first. The Hawks seized the momentum as they quickly took the lead and held onto it by the score of 33-30 at halftime. It was all Hawks in the third as they increased their lead to as many as 14 as they led 59-48 at the end of the third. The Firestorm quickly fought back to start the first as they went on a 12-0 run led by 7 points from Alyssa Alvarez to retake the lead at 60-59. The Hawks though would battle back to take a 70-63 lead but once again the Firestorm led by Alvarez went on a 14-0 run to retake the lead at 77-70 as they would go on to win 79-73 and end a three game losing streak. Alyssa Alvarez led the way with a season high 35 points.
