Late Chances Turned Away

Prescott, Ariz.- Enjoying a cooler evening of soccer up the hill, Arizona Christian let Embry-Riddle (AZ) control the first 30 minutes and gave up two goals.  The Firestorm allowed just four shots in the final 60 minutes (all in less than a five minute span) with several chances offensively but were turned away.

  • The first third of the game, ERAU did the controlling of the match including scoring both of their goals coming off crosses
  • The Firestorm clamped down from there and only allowed four more shots (all from the 73rd to 78th minute)
  • Nine minutes after the second ERAU goal, Abbitt capitalized on a PK awarded to ACU for his third goal of the season.
  • In the second forty-five minutes, ACU had their chances
  • Meza, who had just subbed into the match, sent a shot high
  • ACU had a five minute run of play that turned into three shot attempts and three corner kicks
  • Later two breakaways saved and a dangerous shot from inside the box saw the Firestorm come up empty on the tie breaking goal

"We are really close - lots of good things. First 20 minutes was slow for us and we let up two goals on crosses that we did not handle well.  We had a ton of really good chances in the second half.  I thought we were going to tie it up and win."


NEXT UP
Come Saturday, Arizona Christian will go head-to-head with Hope International on the stadium pitch of the OC Great Park in Irvine, CA.  Match time for the men will be 4:30 pm and game one of the double header with the women.
