Box Score PHOENIX, AZ– The Arizona Christian Firestorm women's basketball fell to the 10th ranked Concordia University Eagles on Tuesday evening by a final of 95-84 inside of the Fultz Memorial Gymnasium on the campus of Arizona Christian University.
With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 4-12 overall and remain winless at 0-3 in GSAC play. With the victory, the 10th ranked Concordia Eagles improve to 10-3 overall and are a perfect 4-0 in GSAC play.
The Firestorm shocked the Eagles in the first half, outscoring Concordia by a score of 48-45. In that first half of play, ACU shot 51% from the floor to Concordia's 50%. The Eagles shot a measly 38% (5-for-13) from beyond the three-point arc, while the Firestorm shot lights out with 50% (7-for-14). The Firestorm also attempted 18 free-throws in the first half and knocked down 13 of them, while Concordia shot 6-for-15 from the free-throw line.
The second half was a totally different story, as Concordia outscored the Firestorm 50-36 on their way to a 95-84 victory. One of the biggest reasons for Concordia's strong second half, was the play of guard Jasmine Crawford who was suspended for the first half of play for undisclosed reasons. Crawford played all 20 minutes in the second half and shot 6-of-8 from the field along with shooting 8-for-13 at the free-throw line; to lead her team with 21 points.
In the second half as a team, the Eagles shot 45% (18-for-40) from the floor but struggled from both beyond the three-point arc (3-for-10) and at the free-throw line (11-for-20). ACU shot 50% (14-for-28) from the floor in the second half, but shot only 2-for-10 from behind the three-point arc. The Firestorm only managed nine free-throws in the second half, making six of them.
Arizona Christian had four players score in double-figures on Tuesday evening, with Sophia Anaya once again leading the way with 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting; all seven makes were from behind the three-point arc. Anaya also had three rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes played.
The Firestorm women will next be in action this coming Saturday afternoon, when they host the 10th ranked Vanguard Lady Lions at 2pm. Following the women's game, the Firestorm men will also host Vanguard inside of Fultz Memorial Gymnasium; with a scheduled tip time set for 4pm.
