Concordia Clocks Firestorm

IRVINE, CA– The Arizona Christian Firestorm women's basketball team was trounced by the 8th ranked Concordia Eagles on Saturday evening by a final of 113-59 at Concordia University in Irvine, California.

With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 5-21 overall and 1-12 in GSAC play. With the victory, the 8th ranked Concordia Eagles improve to 19-4 overall and 12-1 in GSAC play.

The first half was owned by Concordia, as the Eagles outscored ACU 43-28. ACU shot 31% (11-for-35) from the floor and shot just 23% (3-for-13) from beyond the three-point arc. The Firestorm shot 75% (3-for-4) from the free-throw line in the first half. Concordia on the other hand, shot 41% (16-for-39) from the field, but went shot just 28% (4-for-14) from beyond the three-point arc. The Eagles made it to the free-throw line 12 times in the first half, converting on seven of the attempts.

In the second half, things got worse for ACU; as they were outscored 70-31 by the EAGLES. ACU shot 36% from the field 21% from beyond the three-point arc and just 50% from the charity stripe. Concordia shot 61% from the field in the second half and went a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the three-point arc. The Eagles also knocked down 22 of their 33 free-throw attempts in the second half.

In the loss, the Firestorm had two players score in double figures; with Sophia Anaya leading the way with 17 points. Taylor Blue chipped in with 14 points and Jazmin Mays had 10 assists to go along with her seven points and eight assists.

The Firestorm women return home for their final homestand of the season, beginning on February 19th, when Westmont College comes to town. The game scheduled to start at 5:30pm; with the men's game to follow.
