Arizona Christian takes game one from Hawks

SANTEE, Calif. --- The Arizona Christian University Firestorm baseball team took game one from the San Diego Christian Hawks on Friday afternoon by a final of 5-2 in Santee, California.

With the victory, the Firestorm improve to 8-11 on the season and 8-11 in GSAC play. With the loss, the San Diego Christian Hawks fall to 5-19 overall and 5-14 in GSAC play.

The Hawks got on the board first on Friday, striking for a run in the bottom of the first inning off of Firestorm starter Tommy Lay (3-2).

Heading into the top of the fourth inning, the game remained at 1-0 in favor of the Hawks; until the bats awoke for the Firestorm.

ACU struck for three runs in the fourth inning on three singles. San Diego Christian would then score a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth to draw within one run at 3-2.

The Firestorm pulled away for good with RBI singles by Matthew Mara in the fifth and seventh innings to give ACU the 5-2 victory.

Tommy Lay got the win with his seven innings of work; allowing just two runs on eight hits with four strikeouts. Dean Jackson picked up his fourth save of the season with a perfect ninth inning of work.

The Firestorm conclude their three game series with the San Diego Christian Hawks on Saturday afternoon, with a doubleheader beginning at 12 noon Arizona time; 11am in Santee, California.
