Firestorm Knocked Around In GSAC Opener

El Cajon, CA- Digging themselves into a 9-0 hole, the Firestorm were unable to climb out of the hole and fell 11-5 in their GSAC season opener on Friday afternoon.  Sophomore Kyle Robbins went 2-4 with a double and three RBI.  Junior Jake Howard was 2-4 with two RBI.

After striking out two in the first inning, Junior Dean Jackson gave up five runs in the second.  The Hawks (3-3, 1-0 GSAC) used six singles, two stolen bases, and a wild pitch to account for those five runs.

SDC tacked on three more in the fourth and one more in the fifth to chase Jackson who was charged with all nine runs and 13 hits in 4.1 innings.  He did record six strikeouts.

Upon collecting just one hit (the Robbins' double) and three walks through five innings, the Firestorm (0-5, 0-1 GSAC) woke their bats to score two runs in the sixth.  Senior Christopher Burks started the inning with a walk.  Senior Tatum Hendrix singled back up the middle followed by Senior Tate Erickson singling to shortstop to load the bases.  Howard walked to push home Burks.  Robbins drove home Hendrix with a sacrifice fly to center.

In the seventh, Burks scored his second run of the game on an RBI single off the bat of Howard.

Down to their last out in the ninth, ACU scored their final two runs on a walk, single, wild pitch, and a single by Robbins to drive in two.

Junior Andrew Mirasty threw the final three and two-thirds allowing two runs and four hits with five punch outs.

The two teams will square off with a double header on Saturday.  After playing at Grossmont College on Friday, they will continue their series at Point Loma Nazarene University on Saturday.  First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm (AT)/ 11:00 am (PT).
