Firestorm Deny Three Point Line, Sweep Season Series Against Hawks

Box Score

San Diego, CA- On the strength of only allowing San Diego Christian to shoot .095 from three point country, Arizona Christian defeated the Hawks 69-54 on Saturday.  The win earned ACU a season sweep of SDCC.

Senior Madison Austin- on her way to a game high 27 points- opened the scoring with a pair of free throws.  But the Hawks (6-14, 1-11 GSAC) countered with the next six points to move ahead and eventually held a 13-7 edge.

However, the Firestorm (11-14, 3-9 GSAC) answered with a 9-0 run to close the quarter.  Austin nailed a three, Freshman Jada Willingham and Senior Alyssa Gruber both scored, and Freshman Moana Hala'ufia converted two free throws to take a 16-13 into the quarter break.

Quarter two saw ACU build an eight point lead before SDCC closed the gap to tie the score on three different occasions.  Senior Jazmin Mays and Austin scored in the paint in the final minute of the half- including Austin in the final six seconds- for a 29-25 cushion.

Austin was the only player for either team to sneak into double figures in the first half as she managed exactly ten points in the opening 20 minutes.

The Firestorm used the last minute points of the first half to spring board into a 12 point lead just three minutes into the second half.  ACU stayed at least 11 points ahead but was never ahead by more than 16 points for the remainder of the game.

Freshman Courtney Christmas was the other Firestorm to reach a ten point total by game's end.

Hala'ufia ended with a game high of three blocks.

The Hawks finished the game 2-21 from behind the three point line.

On Tuesday, the Firestorm will host Biola for a 5:30 pm (AT)/ 4:30 pm (PT) game.
