Box Score Atherton, CA- A rainy weekend in the Bay Area saw Menlo sweep Arizona Christian in their three game slightly adjusted series format with scores of 9-0, 5-1, and 9-6. Sophomore Michael Dunnebecke collected a series high five hits for the Firestorm.
Instead of the traditional single game on Friday and double header on Saturday format, the Firestorm (8-11, 5-7 GSAC) and the Oaks (19-7, 6-3 GSAC) played two on Friday and one on Saturday in effort to best navigate the weather.
In the opener on Friday, ACU was absolutely dominated as they were shutout while being held to just two hits and striking out 14 times against Menlo's Ashkhon Kuhaulua.
Game two saw the Oaks put up a four spot in the third inning against Senior Tatum Hendrix.
The Firestorm finally found the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning. Senior Jake Wakamatsu tripled to center and came home on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Junior Jose Pereyda.
But MC put up an insurance run in the sixth to account for the final tally of 5-1.
Saturday's game once again saw the Oaks jump out to the early lead with a four run first inning.
The Firestorm scored two in the second thanks to a double for Junior Jacob Rodriguez, RBI single for Hendrix, and RBI double by Junior Tyler Mills. ACU left the bases loaded in the inning.
Following another run for Menlo in the bottom of the second, Arizona Christian plated two more runs on a triple by Hendrix and three straight singles capped by RBI single for Dunnebecke.
ACU tied the score at 5-5 without the benefit of a hit using a walk, hit batter, sacrifice bunt, and groundout in the fourth. However, Menlo used yet another four run inning to break the tie. An unearned run in the seventh created the final mark of 9-6.
The highlights of Saturday's game were Dunnebecke going 4-5 at the dish and Mills driving in three runs.
On Friday, the Firestorm will start a three game series with Biola at Firestorm Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm (AT)/ 1:00 PM (PT) on Friday.
