Everything But A Goal

Box Score

Phoenix, AZ- Arizona Christian Women's Soccer did everything but score on Saturday as they fell 1-0 to Ottawa (AZ).  The Firestorm outshot the Spirit 27-5 but never could capitalize.

The first six minutes and change of the contest was a back and forth effort for both teams.  Just 95 seconds in, Sophomore Marisa Ortiz fired off the first shot of the afternoon.  OUAZ countered with the next two shots- back-to-back shots blocked by the ACU defense.  Freshman Sarahie Torres put a shot on target that was saved.  Sophomore Braxton Carhart hit a free kick over the crossbar.  At the 6:21 mark, a long throw in from the left side found Ottawa's Syndee Busby who headed home the goal for the 1-0 lead.

Over the remainder of the first half, the Firestorm (0-2) did not allow another shot while firing eight of their own- two were saved, two missed left, two went right, and two sailed high.

At the break, Ortiz had four shots while both Torres and Carhart stood at two shots.

In the second half, ACU kept control of the match but could not finish off a shot into the net.  The first five minutes of half number two saw Senior Tasha Coleman have a shot blocked that resulted in a corner kick taken by Sophomore Sarah Carrell who served a ball to Freshman Veronica Cruz who sent a header over the goal.  Sophomore Kylie Neafus had a look but her shot was saved.

Shot number four of the half saw Ortiz hit the post.  Freshman Hanna Perez found the crossbar in the 76th minute.  Sandwiched in between and after was shot after shot high, left, right, or saved.

By game's end, Ortiz took eight shots with Perez at four.

Next Saturday, Arizona Christian will host College of Idaho at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex.  Kick-off is set for 11:00 am.
