Box Score Fullerton, CA- On Thursday, Arizona Christian recorded their third shutout in a row as they tied Hope International 0-0 to open GSAC action. Freshman goalkeeper Tahlia Miears recorded eight saves in the draw.
The Royals (3-3-2, 0-0-1 GSAC) came out firing they attempted two shots in the first minute- one high and one allowing Miears to make her first save of the contest.
From the six to 11 minute mark, the Firestorm (4-2-1, 0-0-1 GSAC) controlled the action as Sophomore Marisa Ortiz hit her first of five shots for the match- requiring a save. A corner resulted in Sophomore Kylie Neafus sending a shot wide right. Freshman Sarahie Torres saw a shot saved.
By the end of the half, HIU held an 8-4 shot advantage but both goalkeepers had notched three saves.
The second half resulted in much of the same as Hope International held a 7-4 shooting edge. Miears was up to the challenge to save five shots.
The first overtime session of the season for ACU resulted in neither team taking a shot. In the second OT session, both teams managed one shot with Ortiz sending her shot high in the 108th minute.
Head Coach Alan Berrios stated, "Good start on the road. We started off a bit slow today but settled in after the 10 minute mark. We created some interesting chances but didn't convert. It was a hard fought game. It is always good to get a positive result on the road."
On Saturday, the Firestorm will be back in action at 11:00 am as they travel to Vanguard in Costa Mesa.
