Box Score Atherton, CA- Arizona Christian used the longball to secure a game one victory over Menlo. ACU took to the road for the first true road test of the season heading to Menlo. The Firestorm used the long ball early in the contest to secure the 11-5 win.
ACU did not waste time as Junior Christian Maggi led off the game with a walk. Senior Adam Wolfe then came to the plate to spark the offense. Wolfe homered providing the Firestorm with the early 2-0 lead. Senior Jonathan Nunnally, Jr. than doubled moving Senior Matt Mara to third base after Mara wore a pitch to take first base. Mara scored on a ground out later in the inning.
The Firestorm (7-7, 2-5 GSAC) continued the hot offense in the second inning plating two runs in the top half much like the first inning. Maggi worked a two out walk bringing Wolfe to the plate. Wolfe then rocketed his second home run of the game (third homer of the year) pushing the ACU lead to 5-0.
Arizona Christian would go on to score three more runs in the fourth inning on Mara's first bomb of the year and one run in the fifth.
Wolfe led the Firestorm at the plate going 3-for-4 at the plate with two home runs, four RBI, and three runs scored. Seniors Michael Dunnebecke and Kyle Robbins collected two hits apiece in the contest. Robbins drove in three RBI including two on his first homer of 2018 while Dunnebecke scored two runs.
Arizona Christian collected 10 hits on the day while only committing one error.
Junior Robert Milacki (1-3) earned first win on the mound as a Firestorm. Milacki tossed six innings allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out four. Juniors Steven Butts, Eric Schwalbe, and Baylor Giannini all saw one inning of relief out of the ACU bullpen.
The Firestorm and Oaks (5-10, 1-6 GSAC) continue the weekend series tomorrow with a doubleheader. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 11:00 am (PT)/ 12:00 pm (AZ).
