Baseball Drops Two At Menlo

Atherton, CA- Arizona Christian Baseball dropped their doubleheader to Menlo on Saturday.  The opposition totaled 34 hits on the day to ACU's 15 hits.  Senior Adam Wolfe launched a grand slam home run in the series finale.

In game one, the Firestorm started out strong plating two runs in their top half of the first inning.  Junior Christian Maggi led off the game with a six-pitch walk.  Wolfe then brought Maggi around to score on a RBI double.  Wolfe later stole third base and scored on an Oaks wild pitch.

ACU then plated one run in both the third inning and fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead.  But Menlo then plated four unanswered runs to regain the advantage and secure the victory.  ACU was able to battle and scratch one run across in the seventh, but didn't prove to be enough in the 8-5 defeat.

Wolfe paced the Firestorm at the plate with a 4-for-5 performance with a double, two runs scored, and one RBI.  Senior Marco Castilla doubled in the contest, scored one run, and recorded two walks.  Senior Jonathan Nunnally, Jr. ended the contest with two hits and scoring one run.

Sophomore Trevor McGee started on the mound for ACU tossing 5.0 innings allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out seven.  Senior Tony Pins took the loss.  Junior Baylor Giannini, Senior Austin Bright, and Junior River Carbone all saw action out of the bullpen.

Game two was played close through the first 2.5 innings of play before Menlo plated nine runs on six hits in the bottom half of the third inning.  The Oaks (7-10, 3-6 GSAC) then continued their offense in the fourth inning plating six more runs taking a 16-1 advantage.

The Firestorm (7-9, 2-7 GSAC) showed fight late in the sixth inning scoring five runs with four runs coming on the grand slam by Wolfe, but could not find enough to complete a major comeback falling 20-6 in game two.

Senior Gary Sheffield, Jr. led ACU at the plate ending game two 2-for-3 with a double, one run scored, and one RBI.  Senior Matt Mara also doubled and scored one run.

Senior Dillon Eaves started on the bump going 2.0 innings allowing seven runs on five hits.  Junior Steven Butts, Carbone, Senior Colton Wheeler, and Sheffield all made appearances in relief on the mound.

The Firestorm return home for a single contest on Tuesday versus Ottawa (AZ).  First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
