Firestorm Never Get Rolling

Box Score

Atherton, CA- To start their final road trip of the regular season, #21 Arizona Christian never got rolling on Thursday as they lost 104-81 at #25 Menlo.  Junior Jac Moody scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds coming off the bench.

The Oaks (20-4, 8-5 GSAC) scored first but only scored on one of their first five shots.  The Firestorm (19-7, 8-5 GSAC) also started the game hitting one of five shots with the one made basket coming on the last of the five- a jumper by Senior Suzie Castro-Larsen- to tie the game at 2-2.

But Menlo found their shooting touch and connected on eight of their next ten shots to build a 24-10 lead.

At the end of the first quarter, ACU trailed by nine.  With 3:53 to play in the half, the Firestorm had cut their deficit back down to eight.  However, a three pointer for Menlo on their next trip down the floor gave the Oaks a double digit lead they enjoyed for the remainder of the night.

Moody scored 14 of her 21 points after the halftime break.  Junior Courtney Christmas scored 13 of her 17 points in the first half.  Sophomore Toni Davis added 16 points.  Juniors Jada Willingham (12 points) and Makayla Enders (11 points) finished in double figures.

The loss to the Oaks appears to prevent the Firestorm from finishing any higher than third in the GSAC standings.  The seeds for the GSAC tournament hosted by Arizona Christian in a week will parallel the GSAC standings.

On Saturday, the Firestorm will close out the regular season with a trip to William Jessup.  Game time is set for 1:00 pm PT/ 2:00 pm AT.
