ACU Suffers 2OT Loss to OUAZ

Box Score

GLENDALE, Ariz. - After remaining tied for much of the match, the Arizona Christian University women's soccer program (1-4-0) would fall to OUAZ (1-0-1) in double overtime Saturday afternoon, 2-1 on the ACU Football Field.

Game Notes:

ACU's all-time series record against OUAZ moves to 1-3 with the loss, with OUAZ now holding a winning streak of two games over the Firestorm.

The match was the first soccer match played on ACU's new turf field.

The Game:

OUAZ got on the board first with a goal at 39:03 in the first half and would hold that advantage for much of regulation.  With the game on the line, ACU's Elizabeth Mulanda would find the back of the net on a free kick at 85:19 to tie the game, eventually forcing overtime.

Neither offense could score in the first overtime period despite both having good looks.  It appeared that the contest may be heading for a tie in the second overtime period, but with less than five minutes left in the game at 106:50, OUAZ broke the lag in scoring with a golden goal, earning the walk-off win, 2-1.

Thoughts from Coach

After the match, Head Coach Josh Macharia said, It was a great first game on our home field, but I am disappointed that we could not pull of the victory.  Our girls played hard for over 110 minutes and a last-minute lapse in judgement cost us the game.  Our goalie was the player of the game as she kept us in the game with some heroic saves.  Now we have a three-week break before our next competition, and I know the girls will be ready!"
