Alvarez's Double Double Leads Firestorm To Big Win Over OUAZ On Senior Day

Glendale, AZ - The Arizona Christian University women's basketball team (21-9, 10-8 GSAC) closed out the GSAC regular season with a dominant 115-76 victory over OUAZ (6-20, 3-15) on Saturday afternoon on senior day at the ACU Events Center.

Game Details:

With the Firestorm seniors being honored before the game coach Rogers decided to mix up his starting line up which led to a close first half with the Spirit taking an early 10-3 lead. From there the Firestorm battled back outscoring the Spirit 24-12 led by 10 points from Alyssa Alvarez to take a 27-22 lead at the end of the first. The Firestorm seized the momentum in the second as they outscored the Spirit 30-16 to take a commanding 57-38 lead at halftime. The Firestorm continued to control the game in the third as Baylee Slaughter led the way with eight points as they increased their lead to 83-55 at the end of the third. The Firestorm didn't stop scoring in the fourth as Emily Vaszary and Kirsten Shinske put up eight and six points to help the Firestorm to their biggest point output of the season as they won 115-76. Alyssa Alvarez led the way with a double double scoring 27 points and recording 10 assists. With the win and Menlo's loss to The Master's the Firestorm finish tied for fourth in the GSAC with Menlo and with the two teams having identical records against each other and the rest of the teams a coach's vote will be used to decide their seeding for the conference tournament.

Next Game:

The Firestorm will head to Santa Clarita, CA for the GSAC Women's Basketball Tournament from February 23-26. The tournament will be hosted by The Master's University and feature all 10 teams in the conference. The Firestorm have a first round bye and will take on Menlo in the quarterfinals on February 24 at 1:00 PM Arizona time.
