Ramirez's Record Tying Day Leads Firestorm Past Oaks

Waddell, AZ – The Arizona Christian University baseball team (27-21, 14-16) wrapped up their four game series against Menlo (13-25-1, 7-20) with a dominant 16-7 victory on Saturday afternoon at Canyon View High School in Waddell, AZ

Series Notes:

With the win the Firestorm improve their record against the Oaks to 9-12.

The Game:

Sergio Heguertty (4-4) picked up his fourth win of the season pitching 6 innings while allowing just one run on five hits while walking one and striking out two. Justin Ramirez led the Firestorm's offense going 2-for-4 with 6 RBIs.

The Firestorm got the scoring started early in this one as they struck for a big second inning. After a single and a double started the inning Trey Tarver would force an error to score the first run of the game to put the Firestorm up 1-0. Then two batters later Kurtis Roberts followed with a bases loaded walk to make it 2-0. After a strikeout Justin Ramirez delivered a clutch two out bases clearing double to put the Firestorm on top 5-0. The Firestorm would then add two more runs in the bottom of the third as Tarver lined a two run shot over the right field wall to increase the lead to 7-0.

Meanwhile on the mound Heguertty continued to shutdown the Oaks until the fifth inning when they finally got on the board to cut the Firestorm lead to 7-1. The Firestorm would immediately respond in the bottom half of the inning as they loaded the bases with one out. Once again it was Ramirez who stepped to the plate and lined a bases clearing double off the Oaks best pitcher to increase the Firestorm advantage to 10-1. The score would stay that way until the seventh inning when the Firestorm struck for another big one. This time it was Caleb Beach who delivered as he hit a two run triple to left center to make it 12-1. Beach would then score on a wild pitch to make it 13-1. Then later in the inning Robby Campillo ripped a double down the left field line to push the lead to 14-1. The Firestorm would then tack on one more run via an error as they took a commanding 15-1 lead.

One inning later Riley Quinton added to the lead as he delivered a two out RBI single to right to make it 16-1. On the mound Roy Washburn shutdown the Oaks in relief pitching 2 innings while allowing just one hit and striking out three. The Firestorm did run into trouble in the ninth as the Oaks scored six runs but Evan Hieb came in in relief and got the last two outs as the Firestorm won 16-7 and took the series winning three out of four. Ramirez's 6 RBIs in one game also ties the all the time Firestorm single game record.
