INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Both teams came out ready to play getting shots off in the first five minutes

BENU was able to capitalize by finding the back of the net at 6:08 to take a 1-0 lead that would last well into the second half

The rest of the first half would be spent mostly in the Firestorm defensive third of the field

ACU did get some good opportunities to score towards the end of the half but couldn't convert, finding the cross bar, side bar, and the opposing keeper.

This trend would continue into the second half in which ACU outshot BENU 10-3, but still was unable to connect.

Mercado would eventually tie the game in the 72nd minute with her goal assisted by Mendoza

The redhawks played very physical soccer and eventually scratched out the winning goal with just three minutes left to play in the match.

Thoughts from Coach Courtney Nash:

"It was a fun game tonight, high energy, good speed of play, and lots of scoring opportunities that just didn't bounce our way.  You always want to get the win, but in a game like this, there's a lot to celebrate beyond the score."

Next Match:

Women's soccer will take a brief two week hiatus before kicking off conference play against The Master's University on September 29th.
