Arizona Christian University made history at the 2025 Missouri Valley Invite, with
Sean Archuleta capturing the program's first-ever tournament championship at 133 pounds. The Firestorm finished 13th overall in a deep 30-team field, highlighted by several strong individual performances.
Archuleta (26-6) dominated his way to the title at 133 pounds, recording two technical falls and two major decisions en route to the championship. In the finals, he shut out Freddy Barajas of the University of Saint Mary with a convincing 9-0 major decision. His path to gold included a 17-8 major decision win over Roman De La Cruz in the semifinals and a 19-2 technical fall over Missouri Baptist's Dillon Witt in the quarterfinals.
Also at 133 pounds,
Jason Ramirez (23-10) showed tremendous grit in battling back through the consolation bracket to place 7th. Ramirez recorded three falls before securing his place with a 17-9 major decision over Providence's Blake Woolsey in the seventh-place match.
Nicholas Dehart had an impressive run at 149 pounds, winning five consecutive matches in the consolation bracket including an exciting 5-2 sudden victory over Simpson's Tyler Diaz.
Kaden Martin (184 pounds) and
Michael Moreno (197 pounds) also contributed key team points, with Martin scoring a fall and a major decision while Moreno recorded two technical falls during the tournament.
At heavyweight,
Zion Longsine (13-6) started strong with wins over William Penn's Jesse Schwery and Midway's Aaron Garcia before falling in the championship quarterfinals.
The 13th place finish marks a significant milestone for the growing ACU wrestling program, with Archuleta's historic championship leading the way in one of the nation's most competitive NAIA tournaments.
The Firestorm returns to the mat in Glendale at their own Firestorm Open on February 15. The event begins at 10:00 am in the Firestorm Recreation Center (FRC).
