Thoughts from Coach Butterfield
"This weekend was a great one for our men's firestorm wrestling team, as our guys traveled out to Crete, Nebraska to compete in the Conner Oppenheim open hosted by Doane University. Sean Archuleta and Jason Ramirez both wrestled extremely well, as they both made the finals in one of the toughest NAIA tournaments in the country. This is just the second time this has ever happened in program history, as Sean and Jason made the finals of a tournament last year as well. Sean Archuleta took out the #5 ranked wrestler in the country from St. Mary's in the semis, and Jason took out the #6 ranked wrestler from Doane in the quarters, showing that we have two of the best 133 lbs wrestlers in the country at that weight. Channing Porter also made some noise, taking out the #9 ranked wrestler in the country from St. Ambrose in the consolation semifinals to make it to the 3rd/4th place match. He unfortunately met his match limit, having gone 5-1 on the day. Freshman Nico Piña had his best showing yet, as he defeated the #21 ranked wrestler in the country from Dakota Wesleyan en route to his 4th place finish in just his 3rd college tournament. Kaiden Cisneros, Rico Robles, and Mikee Trujillo ended the day with winning records and competed well throughout the whole tournament. We are thankful to walk away from the tournament with minimal injuries, and lots of hardware. We are excited to refocus for some important conference duals in Oregon this weekend as we travel to SOU and Corban."

Next Up
The Firestorm will compete in a dual against Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon at 12pm on Saturday and in another dual against Corban University on Sunday in Salem, Oregon at 10am.
