Fugatt Earns All-GSAC Accolades and Lead’s Women to Third Place at GSAC Championships

Santa Clarita, CA- Allena Fugatt completed her cross country career with a high level performance which earned her second All-Conference accolade and helped the women's cross-country team conclude their 2024 campaign with a third place finish at the GSAC Cross Country Championships

Head Coach Brent Fahsholz said, "I am so proud of the performance Allena gave today, and for the honor of having coached her these last four years.  I felt like her mix of early race execution and pacing, followed by her late-race gutsiness exemplified all the ways in which she has grown these four years, and was the perfect bookend to a terrific career."

Fugatt finished 11th overall and ran a course PR of 23:20 which was twenty seconds faster than she ran on the same course five weeks prior.  Following behind her was freshman Priscilla Celis-Saldivar who in running 24:45 also ran a course record by twenty-six seconds.  Not to be outdone was junior Kaesha Guillaume who finished right behind Celis-Saldivar in 25:05 and was twenty seconds faster on the course as well.

Said Coach Fahsholz, "Our ladies who ran well today were consistently around twenty seconds faster than they were five weeks ago when we ran this course the first time.  That is always the goal but is easier said than done.  There were a few who did not meet their goals today, but all raced in such a way that even if it didn't work out for them individually, they were still helping another teammate to have their best day."

There was possibly no better example of this than in the teamwork between sophomore Madeline Davis and senior Holley Nichols.  Davis, who had been the teams fifth runner all season worked with Nichols all race long, and not only helped Nichols to run a new personal record, but it was Nichols who pulled away in the end to be the teams fifth point scorer.

Said Coach Fahsholz, "I was so happy for Holley to finish her cross country career with a new personal record, and that ever important fifth spot on our team.  She has hung in there through a lot of ups and downs, and I am just very grateful for accomplishments today.  It was a tough second half of the race for Maddie, but I was impressed in talking with her afterwards by how happy she was to have helped Holley run her best race.  It's what this sport and this team is all about."
