Phoenix, AZ – The women's track & field team travelled across town on Saturday morning to compete in the Puma Classic, a meet hosted by Paradise Valley Community College. The team came away with a bevy of new personal bests and program top ten record performances.
Junior transfer and heptathlete
Lucille Lovelace made her Firestorm debut on Saturday performing in three different events, including the high jump which she won with a height of 4'-6". The mark was just off her personal best of 4'-8.25".
Lovelace also participated in the 200 meters and the 4x400 relay team of
Georgia Gomez,
Shaylee Quenzer, and
Jade Roberts who ran 4:14.35 which puts them 3rd all-time in program history.
Quenzer also had a big day outside of the relay by making finals in the 60-meter hurdles and finishing with a time of 10.17 which was good for third overall and ranks her third all-time in program history. Roberts finished just behind her at 10.56 and is now fourth all time at ACU.
Senior
Kayla Hourigan threw a new personal best in the shot put (33'-8.75") to finish third overall, and to move up to #3 in the programs top ten list. Joining her in the shot put was freshman
Sedona Dietrich who finished fifth with a throw of 30'-11.75"
Thoughts from Head Coach Brian Bell
"The coaching staff and I are pleased with everyone's performance today. It was an important test after the winter break and the team passed with flying colors. We are well ahead of where we were, at this point last year. We have a very strong, young team and this looks to be a special season."

Next On the Schedule
The team will travel to Albuquerque, NM to compete at the Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Invitational at the University of New Mexico. They will compete on Friday and Saturday January 24
th and 25
th with both track and field events starting at 3:00pm on Friday.
