Phoenix, AZ – The Firestorm Women's Track & Field program participated in three connected but separate events over the weekend.  On Thursday and Friday, multi-event athlete Lucy Lovelace competed at Mesa Community College, while the distance runners competed at Distance in the Dark at the same venue.  On Saturday, the rest of the track team travelled to Paradise Valley Community College for the Cody McBride Invite. 

On Thursday and Friday, Lovelace set a new program record for total points with 3603.  She was helped by setting new personal records in the high jump (4' 9") and the 200-meter dash (27.62).  Her point total currently ranks her 7^th in the NAIA among heptathletes.  

At Thursday's Distance in the Dark, the Firestorm distance crew ran in both the 1500 and the 5K events. Junior Kaesha Guillaume was the top performer setting a new personal record in the 1500 by running a 5:01.76.  The time was an 11 second improvement from her previous best.  

Saturday morning saw among other strong performances, Shaylee Quenzer resetting her previous program record in the 400 Hurdles while finishing second overall in the event with a time of 65.44.  And in the throws, Cheney Gomez and Sedona Dietrich each set new personal bests in three different events.  Gomez bested her previous marks in the long jump, javelin, and discus; while Dietrich improved her bests in the hammer, shot put, and discus.

"Our women's team put on a great display of how strong and tough they are.  Our lady throwers were very impressive – particularly Sedona and Cheney.  There were lots of standout performances from each event group.  We are excited for our women's team to match up with the rest of our conference in a few short weeks."

The Firestorm will travel to Las Vegas, NV next weekend for the UNLV Rebel Elite Invite.  It is a Friday and Saturday meet.  Events start at 12:00pm on Friday and 8:00am on Saturday.
